The Soloist. Chapters Six- Twelve Main Purpose and Summary

In chapters six through twelve Steve's main purpose was to get Nathaniel help. Throughout these chapters Steve does everything he can to help Nathaniel, from spending the night at skid row to getting him his own apartment. Yet, Nathaniel still neglects to get medical attention. However, will do whatever Steve asks of him, maybe because he doesn't want to break their friendship.
In chapters six through twelve Steve meets with a doctor to try to figure out if there is something he can do about Nathaniel's condition. The doctor tells Steve that Nathaniel's road to recovery is not going to be involving a text book treatment program, but a development of trust in Steve and others to peruse his own recovery. Nathaniel began to come across a great amount of opportunities, such as performing at the Blue Bongo, receiving an invitation to see a rehearsal at Disney Hall, an opportunity to live in his own apartment, for free, and Peter Snyder offers to give him lessons. Nathaniel did not want any of these opportunities, but opened up to them, seeing how important it was that he do so.
